A faculty member in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration at Kyambogo University (KYU) in Kampala, Dr. Deborah Atwine is a trained social worker and a lecturer. She has been teaching primarily social work courses at Kyambogo University for over 14 years. Throughout her tenure, she has held various leadership roles within the department, including Head of Department, Coordinator for postgraduate programs, and Exams Coordinator. Additionally, Dr. Atwine serves as a Team Leader at the Population and Social Development Institute (PSDI), where the goal is to empower governments and organizations to design and implement people-centered policies and programs for achieving social and sustainable development. Her areas of specialization and research interests include social protection, social policy, social work decolonization, and innovative approaches to social development. She has published her research in peer-reviewed journals and presented her findings at several conferences. Before assuming her faculty position at Kyambogo University in Uganda, Deborah Atwine dedicated over 10 years to social and community development work, focusing on children and women.
